Shapes of time

Shapes of time

Time receptacles.

Shapes of Time aims at showing the duality between the “clocks time” and the “lived time”. This project materializes in ceramic and glass the temporalities of several individuals to present them in contrast.

Analyzing the relativity of time as an indicator, a dozen people were invited to participate in a study on the same day, in the same place and doing the same things. With all time indicators hidden (clock, phone, computer, ...), the participants were surprised several times during the day to express their feelings and the time they felt.

These data were used to generate time curves, unique to each person. By revolution, these curves take the form of backlit receptacles which receive, throughout the day and drop after drop, a volume of water corresponding to the “clocks time”. This staging plays on the filling levels of the vases as time goes by. The diffraction of light in the water also fills the room with a surreal atmosphere.
